“Over the river and through the volcano I go”

Over the river and through the volcano I go,
Where emerald waters around black basalt flow.
Mist on my cheeks and a song in my pack,
I dance toward the mountain’s obsidian crack.

The river below is a ribbon of glass,
Mirroring clouds as I nimbly pass.
Ferns whisper secrets in verdant parade,
Guiding my footsteps through sunlight and shade.

But looming ahead, the volcano’s crown
Sends plumes of white courage tumbling down.
Ash in the air, like a memory spun,
I steady my heart and press toward the sun.

Its ancient sides glitter with minerals old,
Amber and silver and embers of gold.
The earth beneath trembles, awake with a sigh,
Inviting the brave and the curious nigh.

Warmth at my soles and a glow on my face,
I stand in the crater—a time-hallowed place.
Over the river and through fire’s embrace,
I find at the summit my spirit’s own grace.
