“Always shall I love thee”

Always shall I love thee, as the dawn loves rising sun,
As rivers long for ocean, ever seeking, ever run;
Within the hush of twilight, when the world grows soft and deep,
My heart, a steadfast lantern, promises still to keep.

Always shall I love thee, through the tempests, through the years,
Though fortune wane or wax anew, through laughter and through tears;
Thy name, a whispered secret in the corridors of time,
A melody remembered, sweet and constant and sublime.

I love thee in the petal’s blush, the shifting of the light,
I love thee when the day is long, I love thee in the night;
As stars attend the midnight sky with silently spun gold,
So does my soul attend to thine, through all the days foretold.

Though silvery webs of age may thread the temples of our hair,
Or distance cast a shadow, love’s devotion lingers there;
Always shall I love thee, simple, certain, ever true—
Forever is a promise, kept in every “I love you.”
