“Birthday Party”

Balloons are swelling, ribbons curl,
A cake awaits, its frosting swirl;
Candles line in patient rows,
Waiting for the wind that blows.

Laughter jumps from wall to wall,
Paper hats for great and small;
Presents stacked—a mountain bright,
Shining in the morning light.

Friends arrive with grins and cheers,
Bringing music to our ears;
Games unfold—pin tails and chase,
Bandaged knees and floury face.

The birthday star, with widest grin,
Makes a wish to tuck within
The flicker of each candle’s gleam,
A hope, a dream, a secret dream.

Sweets vanish on eager tongues,
Streamers dance and songs are sung;
Moments caught by cameras’ click,
Years fly by, but memories stick.

As sunlight slips and day departs,
A warmth is left in youthful hearts;
For birthdays, with their simple art,
Paint joy forever in the heart.
