“from father to newborn baby girl”

Oh, little wonder wrapped in light,
With tiny fists and dreaming eyes,
I greet a world remade by you
Beneath the hush of lullabies.

You’re sunlight on the maple floor,
A blossom growing from my name—
Your breath, the newness of the dawn,
Your smile, a spark that soft became.

Once, all my tomorrows swirled unknown;
Now every hope finds rest in you—
I count your toes, your whispered sighs,
A living poem I never knew.

Your crib becomes a castle gate,
Your wobbly crown of wispy hair,
I’ll guard you gently, laugh at rain,
And lift you high on taller air.

When monsters loom or tempests rage,
Within these arms, you’ll always be
My tiny daughter, fierce and bright,
Who taught this father how to see.

And should you dream of distant hills,
With courage big as sky above—
Remember always, little one,
You are my heart, my endless love.
