“please give us free time”
Let us unfurl the ribboned hours—
A plea to time, a gentle chime—
Release us from these bustling towers,
And grant us just a little time.
Let minutes tumble quietly,
Like marbles rolling down a hill,
So we may breathe and simply be,
Beyond the ticking, strict and still.
For every page and every sum
That weighs upon the schoolyard gate,
We dream of games and beating drums,
And afternoons that sweetly wait.
To read a book, to build, create,
To chase the sun, or watch the sky—
There’s magic in a slower gait,
And laughter when our spirits fly.
Oh, kindly teachers, hear our call—
We learn with minds both bright and wide,
Yet free time lets our limits fall,
And all our secret hopes confide.
For sometimes rest is what we need,
To let our hearts and gladness grow—
So give us time to chase, to lead,
To plant new dreams, and let them sow.
